In this post I’m just sharing a rendition of an external HDD storage case I made recently to really start developing my CAD skills. The hard drive itself does not contain any internal parts, so it is just basically a casing. The plastic enclosure uses a clip method to fix the disc in place, and there is room for the SATA-to-USB converter electronics, which is not present at the time. I used a Seagate Expansion Portable Drive to model the exterior of the case, but everything else is my own work, as I never disassembled any of these enclosures. Probably the most challenging part was to make the front SATA connector part of the drive, as there are many corners, varying wall thicknesses and copper connection pins. Otherwise, it was a pretty straightforward job, so please enjoy.
